Quaker Oats Project
art DIRECTOR, PHOTOGRAPHER, DESIGNER
For one of my marketing classes in college, a team of 4 and myself were challenged to update an advertisement we found in a magazine. Our group decided to re-do a Quaker Oats print ad we found in a Family Circle magazine. We thought the original ad was too plain, boring, and easily skipped past. For our remake, we wanted to evoke more emotion and excitement from the reader.
I took on the role as art director, designer, and photographer for the ad campaign. Our idea was to feature a baby with Quaker Oats in the kitchen, intending to keep their “Helper of Hearts” campaign but add a family twist for the magazine, whose primary readers were mothers. We added “Little” Helper of Hearts to signify mothers and children cooking together in the kitchen. We included a take-away recipe named “Charlie’s Cookies” and linked to the Quaker Oats Recipes page through a QR link, then made a Facebook digital ad to go with it.
Our overall mission was to captivate viewers with more energetic imagery and to engage the audience with quick recipe ideas, links to the QO website, and asking them to share photos of their #LittleHelper in the kitchen.
After each advertisement was made, groups pitched their campaigns to the professor and a team of judges. Our group scored highest both rounds.
